Curator's Statement

"#AllinfortheSemiquin: Postcards and Public Memory" is the product of my ongoing thesis research and my volunteer work with Delaware 250. The exhibition follows four major groups —the individual, collector, collective, and state— that utilize postcards to preserve their interpretations of Delaware. These parallel these general categories postcards fall under within the George and Irene Caley Collection, the Gordon A. Pfeiffer Delaware Postcard and Ephemera Collection, and the Delaware Public Archives’ Semiquincentennial Records Collection, the collections that form the basis of my research.

Growth is at the heart of this exhibition. With a project so integrally connected to contemporary events, the four sub-sections are flexible and will further develop as I continue my research and expand the sample of postcards I reference within it. The "Submit a Postcard!" page is designed to ensure participation for anyone interested in contributing to the Delaware 250 project or understanding more about the Semiquincentennial. It is my hope that this exhibition helps demonstrate that everyone has a story that is worth sharing, rememembering, and celebrating as the state and nation prepare to mark two hundred and fifty years of independence.
